Different (and sometimes unusual) uses of metal mesh
As we have seen in the in-depth guide on metal mesh, this material is a very versatile product.
In this article we want to show you all the different, and weird / unusual, uses of expanded metal in other sectors such as fashion, jewellery, home décor, and the use of it for everyday objects.
Let’s start this review!
Everybody knows how much peculiar and interesting the world of fashion is which is why we can expect the most bizarre things conceived and created by stylists who are not afraid of judgments and criticisms, and in case, they are welcome!
One of the most famous examples dates back to 1984 when Gianni Versace turned to a German craftsman able to create clothes with metal mesh, and more precisely of a material called "oroton" which involved the combination and fusion of gold and other metals.
This beautiful creation was made for Patty Pravo, on the occasion of Sanremo Festival in 1984 and the reaction of the public and critics to the appearance of this dress worn by the amazing Patty Pravo was absolutely astonishing.
Today it is exhibited at the “Museum of Fashion and Costume” of Palazzo Pitti in Florence, precisely in the room dedicated to Color.
Always in the field of fashion, the use of metal mesh for the creation of bags, handbags, purses are much more common. Silver metal mesh, black metal mesh, gold metal mesh and decorative metal mesh panel…all combinations give elegance and style to the product.
Let's now pass to the jewelry/accessorize sector.
Just imagine earrings, neckless, bracelets, rings in metal mesh and the first thing you think is the bright and sparkling effect that this material can offer.
Even some watch bands are made of metal mesh, very much in vogue lately.
Not the same for scarfs or belts in metal mesh which saw the light in the early 2000s and today are used truly little, thus becoming part of the “vintage collections”.

Regarding the home décor, the use of metal mesh has taken on very special connotations.
Have you ever heard of metal mesh curtains? They exist and they look like this. (vedi foto nostro showroom)
As a curtain that separates two outdoor spaces ... it is really an innovative and interesting solution.
And maybe in an outdoor space where there is also patio furniture in metal mesh which have the (great) advantage of not being damaged in the sun or in the rain, with excellent resistance to atmospheric agents.
