The Fils parapets for Leonardo's staircase

The genius of Leonardo da Vinci in Vaprio d'Adda.

The genius of Leonardo da Vinci lives again in Vaprio, on the banks of the Adda, thanks to a grandiose spiral staircase that takes full advantage of the versatility and the typical qualities of Fils expanded metal.

The small width parapets realised with expanded metal, were used to "build" the shape of the spiral staircase that connects the new passage with the river towpath and the Belvedere in front of the Town Hall. It is also the transparent conformation of the mesh that allows a remarkable visibility of the landscape. The protection is absolutely robust and safe thanks to the chosen material, carbon steel. The "Grafica" expanded metal mesh was painted in a gunmetal gray color.

Nicknamed "La Chiocciola" (snail) because of its characteristic shape, the Leonardo scale owes its realization to Leonardo da Vinci's vortex studies: the Master, in fact, devoted himself for a long time to the mysteries of the divina proportione, and it is from these studies that Fils started, in order to offer a prestigious architectural work to the Adda area.

Inaugurated in 2013 as part of the "500 years of Leonardo" review, the vortex staircase with a footbridge over the river that was so dear to the Maestro is in fact inspired by Leonardo's projects, in particular his studies on water, polyhedra and turbulence , and therefore represents a symbolic bridge between past and future, between tradition and new technologies. Despite its 18 tons of weight, it goes down lightly from a height of about 6 meters up to the level of the towpath, giving suggestive and unpublished glimpses of the Vaprio landscape, and representing a sure added value for all the tourism of the Adda area.
